Relevance of Technology in Learning... a view point

Often we end up in how much is really "more" in using an application to achieve a set objective? Here the application in question is "Technology" and objective in question is "learning". Well, as some die-hard old timers say "nothing can replace traditional way of learning", Technology has to be accepted, even it is is by reluctance, in some parts of learning. TEL matters when

  • visualization is important
  • review process is needed to understand especially subjects like Maths
  • time of convenience is important
  • upgrading skills is needed either frequently or continuously
  • there is dearth of teachers..... within the available lot, again dearth of good teachers
I read an interesting article in Times of India at http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/india/Indian-higher-education-40-of-college-teachers-temporary-quality-of-learning-badly-hit/articleshow/25520250.cms
which says that forty percent of teachers are temporary, dismally paid and hence the quality of learning has become a casualty.
With mushrooming educational outfits, and less emphasis being made on imparting quality education, we probably cant rue about the past, saying..."hamari zamane mein...". Technology is now more than a necessity to bypass these practical problems. We need to focus on easy means of content creation, packaging and delivering which needs thorough understanding of not just the subject that is taught but the pedagogy that is used to facilitate the learning process. As an experiment, my tryst with technology being used as a means to teach Maths for those professionals who need analytical skills but lack the same because of non mathematical background has been more than encouraging.
